A few helping hands after Hurricane Irma (Sailing La Vagabonde) Ep. 144

Riley, myself, and two other boats drop the pick in southern Barbuda to volunteer in the clean up after the devastation of hurricane Irma. It was a real eye opener having spent time in the town, talking to the locals and seeing how progress on rebuilding the island was coming along. At this stage they say it is going to take them at least another two years to get back to ‘normal’. We also run out of cooking gas and have to resort too camp fires for dinner, which is always fun. If you’d like to help the Barbudans, here is a link to the video on how you can do that: https://sailing-lavagabonde.com/barbu…

Not everyday is like, you know, sunshine and sailing (Sailing La Vagabonde) Ep. 145

After getting the weekend off of volunteer work due to a no fuel situation in Barbuda and also having some bad weather on its way, we are forced to sail back to Antigua for shelter. We try to make the most of our time with a bunch of mundane jobs/chores that come with living on the water. Riley goes spearfishing with his mate George and we explore Fort Barrington!!

Sailing La Vagabonde’s Featured Artists

AVIS – https://www.soundcloud.com/musicbyavis

Singer-songwriter AVIS writes relatable songs that hinge on her enticing and captivating vocal.

Based in East Nashville, it’s no wonder her vocal style treads along a well worn path of country sensibilities, sounding similar to the likes of Dolly Parton.

Her modern approach and alternative style of musical arrangement creates new bridges for contemporary listeners.

Alon Barakhttps://soundcloud.com/alonbarakmusic

Alon Barak records expressive and interesting music, all self composed.

Employing a sound that is almost exclusively acoustic, Barak redefines melodic multi-instrumental style on his debut EP ‘Core Values’. Performing for more than a decade, his music shines with experience and passion.

After more than two years since his debut release, it’s well worth keeping an eye on Alon Barak for hints of a new album.

Peasant Moon – https://soundcloud.com/peasantmoonsongs

Story teller Harvey Russell and long time collaborator Josie Rothwell blend together seamlessly to create their own unique brand of Folk-Americana.

The Sydney-siders began collaborating in 2013 and only two years later had released their debut EP ‘Fading In The Light’, a heart-filled introspection reflecting on unanswered questions. Their latest Ep is ‘Our Timing Was Wrong’, which can be found on the socials.

Harvey’s calls occupy empty spaces and give relatable content as Josie harmonises gently. Best listened to by moonlight as it is almost exclusively played.

Bill Beaumont – https://www.billbeaumont.bandcamp.com

Bill Beaumont’s debut Ep was released on May 26, 2018 and is a paddle in the murky waters of experimental rock. Although these musical journeys can be somewhat risky – producing a palatable sound, while exploring your creative musings – Bill has succeeded with this album.

Parts alternative-ambient, parts hinting at a slidey blues influence, Beaumont’s take on contemporary, home recorded music is curiously meditative to listen to.

Drop in to his BandCamp account for a full listen and to purchase his record from only $2.

Heeblay – https://heeblay.bandcamp.com/

Producing an eclectic, calming and enchanting soundscape, Gold Coast local Heeblay successfully delivers a layered texture of sounds backed by a evocative and soothing vocal.

The low key chanting of words resonates amidst a cluster of stringed, wind and percussive instruments the likes of which would be difficult to pronounce let alone play.

Heeblay has recently released the album ‘Something Big and Beautiful Like the Sky’ which is available on Bandcamp and everywhere else.

Jordan Merrick – https://jordanmerrick.bandcamp.com/

Jordan Merrick is one to watch, the Brisbane local has been making waves with his breezy ballads and intimate live shows.

An original song writer, he also fronts another SLVM featured band ‘Fugitive and the Vagabond’.

Despite his hectic schedule, Jordan managed to release two EP’s last year, the newest his personal masterpiece, ‘Songs From House Arrest’. Have a listen for some beautiful vocals and honest story telling.

Jordan Prince – www.jordanprincetunes.com

Hailing from one of the world’s most musically inspired cities – New Orleans, Jordan took his talents across the Atlantic Ocean.

He ventured all the way to Europe, steadily carving a name for himself into the steins and hearts of Germany’s people.

Critically acclaimed, he has continued to flourish in his new environment with a hectic touring schedule and plans for a new concept album due in 2018.

“Jordan Prince is currently working on his new album, and because the people from his life are such a strong motor behind his writing, this will be a concept album: each of the twelve planned songs will be about a single, important person whose friendship changed his life. The album is officially to be released in 2018 with a new tour.”

Liam Wright – https://www.liamwrightmusic.com.au/

Youngster Liam Wright has been playing music since he was 10 years old. 8 years later he has crafted his own joyfully soulful style of indie-folk music.

Lo-fi production and intelligent lyrics are characteristic of his songs as Liam writes music beyond his years.

With both a SoundCloud and Spotify account that has shot from 500 listens per month to over 3000, he is well on his way to a bright future.

Mark Loughrey – https://open.spotify.com/artist/5prAa…

Mark is a alt-folk, multi instrumentalist, singer songwriter. His sleepy, chilled out ditties are dreamy and texturally pleasing.

Songs suggest a narrative subtly to the listener, like an important whisper that persuades you to lean in closer.

A real charm of Mark’s music is in its alternative leaning, straying from a more colloquial style of musical structure and taking some repetitive rhythms from something akin to contemporary electronic music, creating hypnotising patterns.

Palace Winter – https://open.spotify.com/artist/2F7aa…

Palace Winter is the experimental production of Aussie singer-songwriter Carl Coleman and Danish producer and pianist Caspar Hesselager.

The duo collaborate to create complementary sounds, featuring airy, nonchalant synth, laced throughout a driving, almost hypnotic guitar rhythm.

Carl’s vocal melody winds its way through each song. Although somewhat moody and reminiscent of dark-pop, the message of Palace Winter is an encouraging jab at realisation of one’s potential and self efficacy.

PINES – https://soundcloud.com/pinesmusic

PINES are an electronic duo from Adelaide, Australia. Their music is dense, with more layers than mum’s sponge cake, combining effortlessly to treat the ears.

Smooth as butter vocals are woven into tracks, amidst the sound of synth, drums and bass, generally at a pace of a relaxed walking beat.

PINES has performed at festivals like SXSW and internationally at Reeperbahn, Hamburg, steady in anticipation of their debut album set for 2018, its going to be a big year.

Sonofdov – https://soundcloud.com/lonesparrow

The very chill Sonofdov easily captures attention and allows a glittery web of acoustic mastery to emerge.

Sonofdov sings with an understated emotion that allows the listener to relate to the content contained behind his dusky vocals in their own way.

With an extensive discography dating back to 2012, the talented Indie-folk musician has steadily garnered a loyal following and been the recipient of awards such as at the 2016 New Jersey Folk Fest as well as being featured on several film and TV projects.
