Most PAINFUL Virus Test.. and then WE’RE FREE to Explore! (#266)

“I think I’m missing certain parts of my memory, I think they’re stuck to a cotton swab…” Look it’s not the most pleasant of welcomes, but we’re happy to prove we’re not harbouring the virus. Because the Azores, guys! Finally! These are truly some unique islands, volcanic mountains rising out of the depths of the Atlantic. It’s a magical place we’ve been keen on for some time, that volcanic soil giving the islands such a thick green wilderness. And with no GPS and places with names like the Lake of Fire, the interior of São Miguel is really the adventure we need after some prolonged boating.

  1. Riley,

Our daughter Marin wanted a way to convert her Nissan Xtera into a camper van SUV. We built a slide out kitchen in the back of her SUV and then put a wood deck over it, so she could sleep on top of the sliding kitchen. She uses this set up when she goes Kite Surfing in the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. This is a high wind location attracting lots of Wind and Kite Surfers.

Like you, I wondered if others would like this and truth be told this kind of conversion is very popular in Europe. I’m not sure what it looks like today because she uses a lot and unfortunately I don’t have any pics. There appear to be professional converters in Europe but I don’t think the US has much because we looked into it.

There are some very nice vans from Canada under the name of Roadtrek but they are deluxe and expensive which basically undercuts the idea of having a functional but inexpensive way to convert a van, boat or SUV.

There is a market for this I agree but in the US to custom convert your boat or SUV or van would still run into considerable cost, not something young people on a budget can afford.

If there is a way to make pre-fab kits that young people can install, then yes it could work. The whole idea is to keep it very basic, interchangeable and cheap to both manufacture and install.

    That is the challenge…
